A1 Judo Club is a family-run community club committed to creating a safe, respectful, inclusive and enjoyable environment where children and adults can learn, develop and enjoy judo.
By joining the club, all members and parents/carers agree to support the values of judo and follow this policy.
Membership Requirements
All members must:
- Complete club registration and provide up-to-date contact and emergency information.
- Hold a valid British Judo Association (BJA) membership where required.
- Inform coaches of any medical conditions, injuries or additional needs relevant to participation.
- Pay membership and training fees on time.
- Follow instructions given by coaches and club volunteers.
- Respect club equipment, facilities and fellow members.
Membership may be suspended or cancelled where conduct repeatedly breaches club expectations or creates an unsafe environment.

Winning is never more important than behaviour, safety or respect.
Behaviour Expectations for Students
All students are expected to:
Before Class
- Arrive on time and ready to train.
- Wear a clean judogi and maintain good personal hygiene.
- Keep fingernails and toenails short.
- Remove jewellery before stepping onto the mat.
- Tie long hair securely.
During Class
- Bow and show respect when entering and leaving the mat.
- Listen carefully and follow coach instructions.
- Treat training partners safely and respectfully.
- Ask permission before leaving the mat area.
- Use appropriate language and behaviour.
- Train at a level suitable for your age, experience and ability.
- Look after your partner at all times.
Competition & Events
- Show good sportsmanship.
- Respect referees, officials and volunteers.
- Win with humility and lose with dignity.
- Represent the club positively on and off the mat.
Bullying, aggressive behaviour, discrimination, intimidation or unsafe conduct will not be tolerated.
Parent & Carer Expectations
Parents and carers play an important role in supporting children’s enjoyment of judo.
We ask parents and carers to:
- Encourage effort, learning and enjoyment rather than focusing only on results.
- Support coaches and allow them to coach during sessions.
- Treat all children, coaches, volunteers and officials respectfully.
- Use positive language at training and competitions.
- Help children arrive prepared and on time.
- Inform coaches of absence, injuries or concerns.
- Never pressure children to train or compete.
- Raise concerns privately and constructively.
Parents must not coach from the sidelines during sessions unless invited to do so by club staff.
Attendance, Fees & Communication
- Fees should be paid in accordance with club payment arrangements.
- Members unable to attend should notify the club where possible.
- Repeated non-payment may result in temporary suspension of attendance until arrangements are agreed.
- Club communication will take place through approved communication channels.
Safeguarding & Welfare
A1 Judo Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults.
All members have the right to:
- Feel safe
- Be treated fairly
- Train free from bullying or discrimination
- Speak up if something does not feel right
Any safeguarding concerns should be reported to the Club Welfare Officer or relevant safeguarding procedures.
Photography & Social Media
- Photos or videos may only be taken in accordance with club safeguarding procedures.
- Members and parents should not post content that could embarrass, bully or identify children without permission.
- Social media should reflect the values of respect and sportsmanship.
Breaches of This Policy
Where behaviour falls below expectations, the club may:
- Give a verbal reminder
- Issue a written warning
- Meet with parents/carers (where appropriate)
- Temporarily suspend participation
- End membership in serious cases
Our aim is always to educate and support positive behaviour first.
